Company History
Bobcat of Pittsburgh opened for business in 1982 in a small building in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, starting with just 3 employees. In only a few years, the business expanded to over 15 employees and quickly became one of the tri-states leading Bobcat dealers. In January of 1994, Bobcat of Pittsburgh was purchased by RECO Equipment Inc., an Ohio based dealer of heavy construction and mining equipment. In March of that same year, we moved to Cranberry Township, PA, a suburb just north of Pittsburgh. We shared space in our present 16,000 sq. ft. building with RECO's first Pennsylvania branch office. After just one year, both RECO and Bobcat of Pittsburgh grew too big for one building and in the spring of 1995, ground was broken for a new building adjacent to the existing facility. At about the same time, a full-service satellite branch of Bobcat of Pittsburgh was added east of Pittsburgh in Youngwood, PA. In May of 1996, RECO moved its employees and equipment into the new building. Some minor renovations were done to the existing building to better accommodate the needs of the Bobcat operations, including an enclosed equipment showroom, expanded parts showroom and warehouse and service bay improvements. A grand opening with a catered pig roast was held which drew well over 400 in attendance. Only two years later in September 1998, another branch of Bobcat was added just southwest of Pittsburgh in Canonsburg, PA. The three branches, nearly equally spaced, surround the City of Pittsburgh. Today, Bobcat of Pittsburgh employs over 30 full-time employees in the three full-service branches and is still growing.
